Chemistry is all around you, if you pay attention: washing dishes, the emotions you feel (chemical messengers), the foods you eat (chemical digestive enzymes), the object you see (states of matter). It's shocking to imagine a world without chemistry, which is scientifically known as the science of the properties, composition, and structure of substances and the transformations they undergo. Here at Panther Creek's SNHS, we will explore parts of chemistry such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, acids + bases, etc.

1/28/22: The perfect cup of coffee
Chemistry in Coffee
Making coffee isn't a challenging process, but perfecting it can be a challenging task. During this Chemistry event, students learned the Chemistry of making coffee, variables to control, and the composition of major chemical components within coffee through the slides linked above. Once we reviewed the basis of coffee, we dove straight into the digital escape room that tested each groups knowledge by answering questions to help Bob perfect his coffee recipe. These SNHS members did a great job understanding the chemical concepts of coffee and solving the problems Bob faced with his coffee.
12/2/22: Chemistry Jeopardy
In this fun and interactive event, students participated in a chemistry trivia game in a Jeopardy format. Questions came from many different categories such as Guess the Element (Based on descriptions and symbols), Guessing Molecules based on Lewis Structures and properties, Periodic Trends, Chemical Reactions, HEAT!, and Radioactivity. The first Jeopardy board contained five different topics, and the second Jeopardy board contained another five topics but all of the point values were doubled. There was also a final Jeopardy round in which participants could bet all of their points. Congratulations to our winners, Kushal, Manu, Kesav, Vraj, and Vinay!
